St. Louis Free Fish Derby

For many years, the City of St. Louis, Michigan has dealt with a very large amount of contaminants in the Pine River. A beautiful, scenic part of the state that is located in the "Middle of the Mitten" of Michigan.
For the past 12 years, my friend Joe Sholtz has brought awareness to this issue through a free fishing derby during Michigan's Free Fishing Weekend. A weekend every June that you do not need a fishing license to enjoy a wonderful past time with friends and family.
Although the issues of PBB, DDT and other harmful agents still contaminate the ground and waterways of the river, the town remains hopeful and continue to rally around a beautiful part of Michigan to enjoy friends, food and fishing!

The photos are of the wonderful folks that are from and surround St. Louis and the Pine River. Some of the photos show some of the visible problems in the fish of The Pine. Although some seem perfectly fine, there is still a ban on keeping and consuming fish from this area.
